Sonadia - The Story of A Secluded Island

At this challenging time, the whole house seems like a prison. And I was feeling like a bird in the cage! I needed a break badly. Cox's Bazar and St. Martin's Island are famous tourist spots in Bangladesh. But there is another island in this Cox's Bazar district that is unfamiliar to many. The name of the island is Sonadia.

Sonadia Island is also known as the Island of Solitude. The island isn't densely populated. Sonadia is located in the sea's depths, about 15 km away from Cox's Bazar city. The area of the island is about 9 square kilometers. Unlike Saint Martin, there is not much settlement here yet.

Not many tourists visit this island so that you can enjoy the beauty of nature in silence here. And staying in a tent in this environment will give you a heavenly feeling. And that was our plan; camping on this island for one night!

We left Jetty No. 6 in Cox's Bazar to go to Sonadia. And arrived by noon. I said at the beginning that our trip was completely relaxing. And we wanted to be in solitude, a little away from the noise. There are no hotels in Sonadia as there are not many tourists; only a resort has been set up recently.

Jhau Trees surround Sonadia; sorry, I don't know the English name of these trees. Very few families live on the island, whose main occupation is fishing. And thousands of red crabs can be seen running here and there on the beaches as there are not many tourists to disturb them.

You will have a great time walking on this beach. The secluded beach will give you the feeling of a private beach. In Sonadia, I liked "turtle conservation farms" most. The tortoise comes to the beach and lays eggs, and some workers preserve the eggs here as a government initiative. Noise on the beach is strictly forbidden for the convenience of laying turtles' eggs in winter. The gentle breeze that blows through the middle of the jungle can remove all the turmoil in your mind.

I have always been a person who stays away from the noise. Bangladesh is a densely populated country, and it is a matter of great fortune to spend time on such a secluded island in the midst of this densely populated country. Where the boundaries of Sonadia Island end, the mangrove forest begins. However, I could not go there as there was no way to go.

On that night, I was lying down on the hammock and thinking - Ah! If life had always been so unadulterated and tension-free!
